If children are the future... we're in for quite a ride

I'm such a terrible blogger (and a terrible everything, but let's focus on my blogging for now).

It's been over a month now, and a LOT happened since that last birthday post.

We have a new show, we already taped the first four episodes, I did castings and questions and whew... it was nothing like I thought it would be.

I have been visiting schools (since the casting involves 10 - 11 year olds) and have been quite disappointed with the mexican school system. No surprise there, huh?

Truth be told, I *was* a bit surprised, since I only visited private schools and some of them are supposedly the best schools in the country.

I am SURE that when I was 11, I knew the capital of Canada is Ottawa, or that the capital of Germany is Berlin. (A kid actually answered "Spain" for the Germany question and another girl was obviously given the answer, but she REALLY needs to check her hearing. Either that or Merlin was not only King Arthur's adviser and we have to recheck those books).

Two of my grandparents were teachers in Spain before they came to Mexico as refugees during the Spanish Civil War... both of them are rolling in their graves because of the answers I got.

Today, I have an appointment with another school in a couple of hours.

Let's hope they don't make me consider homeschooling my kids (if/ when I have them). Because it's tempting after what I've seen.

Happy Birthday to... me.

It's my birthday. Today.
I turn 29.
No, really, twenty nine.

I wasn't depressed, which is weird, since I get depressed every single birthday I've had since I turned twenty.

But the husband left on a business trip today. And won't come back until Thursday.

I just got back from work where a co-worker gave me a cake. A WHOLE CAKE. For myself.

I don't want to have cake on my own. It sort of felt depressing to stand there on the kitchen counter and look at my birthday cake. I put it in the fridge. I am not sure I will eat it. Not alone. Not a whole cake.

I am not depressed, but I am a little bit lonely and a little bit feeling like... well, like it's not my birthday.

On the bright side, the husband gave me the KnitPicks harmony wood kit I was talking about on the last post AND 2 sets of harmony wood double pointed needles. So, I think... it's time to knit.

It's ALWAYS time to knit.

10 things I love (I think this counts as Grace in Small Things Parts 6 & 7)

I know it's been a while, but just as I was complaining about the show, I got a call saying we were on with another show and we were on the air June 13th.

I almost fainted, but I started to work. I have been kind of a casting director the past two weeks and we are choosing kids in the sixth grade for our show, so I've been really happy. I just LOVE kids.

I've been knitting a lot since I joined Ravelry and found the HPKCHC knit along.
Here's a few things I've been loving lately:

1. Ravelry.

2. Knitting Stranded/ Fair Isle Style.

3. White tea with honey.

4. Kim Westad's Ceramics. (below)

5. Geninne Zlatikis's studio at Flickr.

6. KnitPicks nickelplated and harmony wood cable needles sets. The harmony wood ones are JUST beautiful to look at.

7. This is my birthday weekend. I turn 29 on Monday! But I am enjoying it already.

8. Teacups as plant pots.

9. Rainbows.

10. I want a vintage bike like this one SO BADLY! And look at the orange color on it!!!

Work Sucks (or mine does, anyway)

Wow, I've really abandoned this place, haven't I?

I've been knitting like there's no tomorrow, or rather like there's a cold tomorrow, working extra hours and trying to keep my sanity while cleaning my house.

I have been on and off of work the past 4 years, since I work in T.V. production. That's a weird environment cause you don't know if you're having a show tomorrow or some executive got up this morning in a bad mood and decided that your show was no longer any good and that it should be off the air.

So for the past 4 years it has been like this: made some pilots and started new shows, they got canceled, we made new pilots, new shows, new cancellations and now we had a schedule to do a new show that was supposed to air on May 30th.

Today, it got canceled before it even started... so I'll be around more often. That is until we make a new pilot. Or I start my own business, which I've been thinking about for a while now.

I'm a bit depressed today so... I'll go and knit some and then sleep. It's late and I worked all day on a show that is not even going to air.

Bummer.
